Dang It

Did you all catch this in the student events email?

Student Life Policy on Campus Wide E-mails
The Student Life Office has been overwhelmed recently with requests from students and student organizations to send out campus-wide e-mails advertising their specific events. Given the fact that there are over 70 student organizations at UIS, the Office of Student Life has instituted a policy which limits campus-wide e-mails to the "Student Life E-mails" sent out on Mondays and Thursdays of each week along with a small numbers of others of campus-wide importance such as announcements of student elections. Exceptions were also made recently to send out information related to the Hurricane Relief efforts.

I know we were planning on doing this for the Bash the Beater, or can we still go about it a different way?

We are just going to have to be content with sending out our event in the standard student life emails.

Cynthia Thompson addressed this with me at one time, so I had not requested that we be allowed to send out a club specific all-campus emails -- evidently if she went to the trouble of writing up this information and distributing it, she must be receiving a lot of requests for this type of information from clubs. Imagine how many emails we would get in our inboxes if the University did not try to control this. With 70 clubs on campus, that could amount to a lot of "junk" mail.

We are just going to have to suck it up and abide by school policy -- we can still hang posters, use word of mouth advertising and list our event on the events calendar.

In the interest of staying in the good graces of Student Life, it's my opinion that we should NOT attempt to contact anyone else to send a campus wide email for us. It would be ideal if we COULD, but we will be able to go further as a group if we have the cooperation of the administration. I don't want to turn Parlez-Francais into a Student Life pariah.

I know, I know, but I HAVE to abide by their guidelines, or face the consequences -- and I am fearful of the consequences.

At least we can still contact all of UIS Housing. We should hand out flyers to professors who may not receive the emails...

Send the flyer to Mae Noll and have her send it to UIS Housing and General Announcements distribution lists!
